Since inception, The Long Island Community Foundation has operated as an affiliate of The New York Community Trust.
As part of our centennial celebrations, we are creating a single, unified organization to more powerfully advocate for our region with one voice.
We will still maintain our physical offices in Long Island with the same dedicated staff who will continue to honor and build upon our relationships with local nonprofits and communities.

The New York Community Trust. For Long Island. Forever.

If you are looking for ideas to support local nonprofits that are facing today’s urgent challenges and helping New York City, Westchester, and Long Island, look no further. Whether you want to help families in need of stable housing, migrants seeking refuge, LGBTQ communities, those in need of mental health care, or young people caught up in the court system, we have suggestions for where to give.
We’ve vetted these organizations and supported their work. Of course, these lists represent only a fraction of our region’s incredible nonprofit sector (we don’t want to overwhelm you), but they are a good place to start! Contact us if you want ideas on how or where to give in any other issue areas you care about.
While homelessness is not a new issue, recent factors are straining the existing support system in our region. The nonprofits in this guide are helping fellow New Yorkers get into supportive and affordable housing, providing health services, and advocating for policies that build long-term stability for families and individuals.
Too many New Yorkers are unable to get the mental health care they need, especially in light of the pressures exacerbated by the pandemic. This guide highlights local nonprofits that are connecting people with free or affordable mental health care.
Our city has a long tradition of welcoming immigrants and offering opportunities, resources, and refuge. In this guide, we suggest several nonprofits assisting the most recent arrivals.
There are so many great nonprofits that support, serve, and advocate for LQBTQ New Yorkers. The Trust has put together a Pride Giving Guide for these diverse nonprofits.
Make the Juvenile Justice System More Just
To make sure young people’s lives aren’t shaped by arrest and incarceration, we need to fund programs that advocate for reforms and engage young people. Together we can change lives and improve the justice system. Consider donating to the organizations in this guide.
