Since inception, The Long Island Community Foundation has operated as an affiliate of The New York Community Trust.
As part of our centennial celebrations, we are creating a single, unified organization to more powerfully advocate for our region with one voice.
We will still maintain our physical offices in Long Island with the same dedicated staff who will continue to honor and build upon our relationships with local nonprofits and communities.

The New York Community Trust. For Long Island. Forever.
Our expert grantmaking team will harness your generosity. They do the legwork: vetting proposals, making grants, and ensuring that gifts get results for generations to come.
An unrestricted fund continues your charitable legacy in perpetuity. Future LICF board and staff—who have a tradition of excellence to stand on—will make grants in your name that deal effectively with issues that arise.
The Greentree Foundation, named after the Whitney family home in Manhasset, was established in 1982 by Betsey Cushing Whitney to support groups that want to improve education and lessen social and cultural tensions. Today, Greentree’s mission includes the advancement of peace, human rights, and cooperation among nations. It also practices sustainable land and wildlife management and supports local charities through a fund created nearly two decades ago at the Long Island Community Foundation. In 2003, Greentree joined Long Island Community Foundation’s family of funds to ensure its grants address some of the Island’s most pressing needs. Since then, the Greentree Fund has given more than $2.5 million to a variety of causes—from afterschool programs and childcare to economic development and immigration issues.
It’s easy. It’s a great choice for busy New Yorkers who want to give back, but don’t have the time to research the thousands of nonprofits that deserve support.
