Hurricane Irma Disaster Relief Fund

On September 10, 2017, a Category 4 hurricane smashed into Southern Florida, bringing torrential rains, flooding and winds of more than 140 miles per hour. After causing havoc in countries throughout the Caribbean, Hurricane Irma has devastated communities across Florida, with hundreds of thousands of residents forced from their homes and more than 6.2 million without power. Storm surge warnings are in effect throughout the state, where water levels are predicted to rise as much as six feet.

Damages could run into the billions of dollars, and communities affected face a long and painful recovery. We recommend giving to community foundations, which have decades of experience in local problem-solving, and identifying effective nonprofits providing relief and recovery aid to those who need it most.
