Lynette Batts, executive director of Littig House Community Center

Lynette Batts, executive director of Littig House Community Center. Littig House is dedicated to enhance the quality of life of youth and families in Port Washington. By providing holistic supports for youth, family, adult and seniors to reach success in the goals they desire.

What influenced you to do what you do?
My family linage of service starting from my maternal grandfather and the women in my life who were responsible for a diverse number of family needs influenced me. It is their actions to lend a helping hand and their drive to make a difference for the common good that has sparked my path of advocacy for over 25 years.

What inspires you?
What inspires me is seeing the transformation of individuals we serve own and grow into their role as community resources and advocates. To be in a position that allows me to partner with families while providing resources needed to remove barriers that hinder progress toward the goals they desire for their family and community. The community's strength, optimism and willingness to share their experience with others inspire me to keep going.

Who’s your female role model and why?
One of my female role models is Ella Baker – a “behind-the scenes” strategist and activist who believes the people, themselves, can best lead the efforts to build change against societal barriers. Her recognition of the potential of our youth – seeing them as the hope of the civil rights movement, providing tools of education and ensuring they were a part of the grassroots social change is one that heavily inspires my commitment to service daily.

What is your greatest achievement?
Having the opportunity to spend 25 years working for a community-benefit organization established in 1951 to enhance the quality of life for youth and families in, it of itself, is a blessing. Yet, I continue to be in awe of the strength, leadership and passion of the community breaking down barriers and advancing equity for all – not just for one self, but for their fellow neighbor.

What would you like our donors to know about you and your mission?
To enhance the quality of life Port Washington, Littig House Community Center is committed to engaging adults, youth and seniors in a community network that strives to keep families strong, empowered, and connected through opportunities for leadership, self-sufficiency, asset building, and social activities. Our mission is community driven. I believe people from all walks of life, has received a special gift to be of good stewards of service to others. We welcome all to share whatever gift they may have at Littig House to ensure every child we serve achieves their full academic potential, every family we serve receives the tools to reach self-sufficiency and the communities we serve continues to stand united as one.
