Making an investment in tomorrow, today...

Jean Kelly, executive director of The INN (The Interfaith Nutrition Network)

Jean Kelly, executive director of The INN (Interfaith Nutrition Network) a volunteer-based organization, founded in 1983 that provides a broad variety of essential services to assist those challenged by hunger, homelessness and profound poverty.

What influenced you to do what you do?
I was influenced by my parents, who were incredibly generous, thoughtful and understanding not only of me and my siblings, but also our neighbors and friends of the family.

What inspires you?
I am most inspired by meeting the guests of The INN. In spite of their enormous difficulties, they still manage to be gracious, patient and understanding of their situations and present limitations.

Who’s your female role model and why?
I have many female role models. Two of them are Eleanor Roosevelt and Dorothy Day. Both managed to make a difference in the world by taking bold actions and speaking truth to power, while not losing their own dignity and sense of self.

What is your greatest achievement?
Besides remaining dedicated to the mission of The INN for 36 years, was seeing the need for the Center for Transformative Change and being part of its creation. Its ability to help solve an individual guests’ current dilemma is truly inspiring.

What would you like our donors to know about you and your mission?
I am no different than anyone else who has learned about The INN and become involved. I was just fortunate to be able to serve at the level I have because of life’s circumstances and timing. What remains remarkable about The INN is that people and organizations of all faiths and backgrounds can still join and offer their support to The INN whenever the timing is right for them. We are all called to make a difference in this world. Hopefully we can find the strength and courage to show kindness to strangers in need of our help.
